Insomnia is frustrating and, at times, even painful. Chronic poor sleep can lead to relationship issues, weight gain, difficulty focusing and low motivation to exercise. I have research and clinical expertise treating sleep disorders. I provide an evidence based intervention called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is a highly customized and individualized intervention for insomnia that guides patients through a series of changes in behaviors (sleep schedule, conditioned associations that maintain insomnia) and thought patterns that cause or worsen sleep issues. Unlike sleeping pills, CBT-I helps you overcome the underlying causes of your insomnia.

I help you identify the most relevant targets for behavior changes, and overcome obstacles. We make changes feasible and customized to your readiness for change and lifestyle.

The majority of patients respond to this treatment fairly quickly. Some people experience significant changes after only two therapy sessions. Most improve after 6 sessions.

As an expert with a passion for this particular intervention and it’s utility, I continue to supervise and teach treatment for insomnia to psychiatry residents at UMass and Harvard teaching hospitals.
